Presenting World Music in the Sacramento Valley
I'm involved with a local non profit radio station, KDVS, here in Davis, presenting WORLD music to the Sacramento Valley. I've been hosting/producing a weekly radio show called "Crossing Continents" for the last 18 years. About 10 years ago, I created a company called TimnaTal Music in order to bring LIVE music events to our area. I've been the only one who consistently brings this type of music to the region. I'd like to change my company to a nonprofit organization since I just try to cover my expenses. I've been able to support musicians who are based in the USA & abroad. My activities can be viewed at: http://www.timnatalmusic.com/
In the last twenty years, traditional music, from different regions of the world, has been gaining recognition and appreciation by the European public. This process has been much slower in the United States. The goal of TimnaTal Music is to bring a variety of traditional music, with a focus on the Middle East, Mediterranean/Balkan and Central Asia, to the audience of the Davis/Sacramento CA area. This has been done via radio over the last 18 years, through a weekly radio show called Crossing Continents on KDVS, 90.3 FM. (www.kdvs.org) , and through bringing live concerts to the Davis area.
By sharing musical traditions from around the world, TimnaTal Music hopes to open the door to understanding and appreciation for the richness of peoples and cultures who share our world.
