Open Mic Showcases Artist and Helps Fund Community Programs
I am the owner of a small music retail/instructional facility in Eastern CT called the Song-a-Day Music Center. I am also a career professional musician. Song-a-Day has run a monthly open mic event in our area for the last four years. This is a stage where musicians, songwriters, and storytellers can come and share their art with the community. Proceeds from door donations go to outreach projects by the non-profit organization that hosts this Open Mic. Intergenerational performers might be young students or seasoned retirees. This event is well supported by community members who come out for an evening of music, poetry and stories. Teenagers give off their time to help during the evening. Although a lot of work each month, this Open Mic exemplifies Song-a-Day's commitment to making music and art available to all.
Ruth O'Neil, Clayton Allen and others enjoying an informal jam session at the Night songs Open Mic held the fourth Thursday of every month in Coventry CT. This is a community event the benefits projects by the local Knights of Columbus, along with providing performing artists a forum to share what they do.blog comments powered by Disqus
